Strike After Swing
by MerrySnow
Strike After Swing changes when mobs deal melee damage, holding it back until their attack animation finishes.
What it does
In vanilla Minecraft, many mobs apply melee damage the instant an attack begins, while their arm is still moving. This mod holds back the damage of non-player mobs until the swing completes, so the hit registers at the end of the motion. Player attacks are left unchanged.
When a delayed hit is about to land and the target has already stepped beyond reach, the blow is cancelled and no damage is dealt. The goal is melee timing that matches what players see on screen. The changes are made through mixins and stay limited to attack timing, so other gameplay stays as it was in vanilla.
The mod runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and it has to be installed on the client and the server. Files are published for 39 release versions, 1.16 – 26.2, and the mod is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. The latest file, 1.0.3, is available for 26.1.2 on Fabric and NeoForge and for 1.20.1 on Forge.
Key features
Delayed mob melee damage
Non-player mobs apply melee damage only after their attack swing animation has finished.
Attack cancellation
A delayed hit is cancelled if the target has left the attack range before it would land.
Unchanged player attacks
Attacks made by players keep their original timing, so only mob melee behavior is affected.
Minimal gameplay change
Beyond attack timing, the mod leaves the rest of the game alone, changing only the moment damage is applied.

What the author says
StrikeAfterSwing delays mob melee damage until the attack swing animation finishes. In vanilla Minecraft, many mobs deal melee damage immediately when the attack starts, even though the swing animation is still playing. This mod changes that behavior so the damage lands at the end of the swing instead.
