SporeWithin

by starlings_s

SporeWithin adds an apocalyptic expansion in which spore-infested mounds, patrols and scouts threaten players' bases across the world.

What it does

Hidden carrier vessels and decaying remains form subterranean mounds that act as defenses and build a seven-day race against the Hivemind. Mounds within 250 blocks link into pairs and divide responsibilities, while an Incubator shares intelligence through underground mycelium and directs partner player positions. The Aggressor works as the front-line hunter, sending out a steady flow of stalkers and patrols and launching siege attacks.

Mounds send out mobile patrol squads that orbit base perimeters and react to player footsteps or block breaking nearby. Scout Stalkers follow players at a distance to observe defensive layouts and inspect chests and doors, avoiding direct combat. Scouts that gather reports sprint back to a mound, and delivered reports let the hive plan targeted base sieges. Wiping out a scout party sets off a distress screech that rouses neighboring nests and draws them into raids.

The mod requires client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1, with files dated 2026-10-07 and dedicated server support. Its code is not public, though a source code link exists. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Spore mounds and remains

Hidden carrier vessels and decaying remains grow into subterranean mounds that defend the hive.

  2. Linked mound pairs

Mounds within 250 blocks link and split responsibilities, with an Incubator passing positions to its partner.

  3. Scout and courier cycle

Scouts observe fortifications and carry their reports back to a mound, which then plans sieges from them.

  4. Custom audio

Faraway patrol clicks, horn signals, scanning pulses and warning shrieks are played through a sound limiter, which stops crowded hordes from garbling the audio.
