Origins: Spore Springer

by FintrisOrchid

Origins: Spore Springer gives players a spore-based origin whose bouncing and cloud-throwing abilities change how they move through a world.

FabricQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.20.1

What it does

The mod is an origin for the Origins framework, so it needs Origins installed alongside it. Its player Spore Springers are humanoid fungus creatures who produce cosmic-infused spores, which form clouds that can be placed and removed with the use key. Gathering spores and shooting them knocks back nearby enemies and causes a Spore Cloud pulse, and entities can be thrown away from a cloud, with Spore Springers thrown farther.

The origin changes movement. Players float instead of falling unless they sneak, take no impact or fall damage, gain much faster speed in the air, and break blocks at the same speed in the air as on the ground. Spores let the player jump two blocks higher unless sneaking. Time spent in a Spore Cloud in the Nether heals faster around fire, while the ground pulls spores in and slows walking, and lava harms the player greatly.

The server must run the mod, while players may add it as an optional client install that the server does not need. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Files cover 1.20.1 only, for both Fabric and Quilt, with the 1.0+mod for 1.20.1 build dated 2024-05-17 as the latest file on each loader. A data pack build is also available.

Key features

  1. Bouncing spore body

The player bounces off surfaces, and fungus creatures leap high on the spore clouds they release.

  2. Spore clouds

Clouds are produced from gathered spores, placed by the player, and removed with the use key.

  3. Knockback pulse

Shooting spores pushes back nearby creatures and triggers a pulse from the cloud that can throw entities away.

  4. Floating and fall immunity

The player floats instead of falling unless sneaking, takes no impact or fall damage, and moves quickly through the air.
