SoundSelection Babric

by Telvarost

SoundSelection Babric lets players load custom sound packs into the game, much as texture packs are loaded.

What it does

Sound packs are folders or zip files placed in a soundpacks folder that the mod creates on its first run. A pack copies the structure of the resources folder, so any sound file can be replaced by editing the copy and removing the originals that should not change. Default Minecraft sounds are used wherever a pack does not supply its own.

The mod reads each pack's pack.mcmeta for a description and title, and uses the zip file name as the title when none is given. Selecting a pack takes place in a sound selection screen, which can be hidden through the Cryonic Config mod by setting displayGUI to false in the soundselection.json file in the config folder. The sound selection icon in the game interface is part of that option.

Built on Babric and run with Fabric, the mod is client-side only, so only the player's game needs it and servers do not. Cryonic Config may be added for the optional settings. The code is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Custom sound packs

Players can add sound packs that replace game sounds, in a way similar to how texture packs work.

  2. Pack folder created on first run

A soundpacks folder is generated the first time the mod starts, ready to receive packs.

  3. Sound selection screen

A GUI lists the installed packs so the player can pick one, and the entry can be disabled through a config value.

  4. Fallback to default sounds

Any sound a pack does not include is taken from the default Minecraft sounds.

Modded sound design

Builders and modders can replace individual sounds to test a new audio style without changing the game jar.

Packaged sound sets

A sound pack can be shared as a zip file, with its title and description read from pack.mcmeta.

Who it’s for: Players and modders who want to change game sounds through packs instead of editing the game files. The mod is for the player's client only.
