Soft ToggleSneak changes how the sneak key behaves, so a brief press of the key toggles sneaking on and off.

What it does

Holding the sneak key for a set number of game ticks activates the toggle, while a longer hold leaves sneaking to work as normal. The default window runs from 0 to 5 ticks, which is 0 to 0.25 seconds, and the upper and lower bounds can be changed in the config. The mod is a client-side addition, so a server running the vanilla game does not need it, and players who join a server without it are unaffected.

The mod is published for Fabric and Forge and covers 19 release versions, 1.19 – 26.3. Fabric builds need Fabric API, Cloth Config and Mod Menu, which provide the config screen. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the latest Fabric file is 1.3.0 for 26.3, released on 2026-09-16. Forge's latest file is 1.1.3 for 1.20.1, dated 2023-11-05.

Soft ToggleSneak is a reworked version of Zebra's ToggleSneak, and it is meant for downgrading older Minecraft Java builds where that earlier mod is no longer available.

Key features

  1. Tap to toggle sneaking

    A short tap of the sneak key starts or stops sneaking, so the key does not have to stay held down.

  2. Hold-time window

    The hold length that triggers the toggle is set in game ticks, with a default of 0 to 5 ticks.

  3. Adjustable bounds

    The lower and upper tick limits can be changed in the config, so the timing fits the player's key habits.

  4. Normal sneak preserved

    A hold longer than the window works as ordinary sneaking, with no toggle applied.
