Soarin'
by UAVwaffle
Soarin' brings thermal updrafts to Minecraft, letting players stay aloft in flight with little energy and without firework rockets.
What it does
Thermals are warm air currents that move upward. Soarin' re-creates them as updrafts generated by certain blocks: hot blocks such as lava, fire, magma blocks and campfires produce them, and so do many blocks that are warm during the day, including sand, dirt, gravel, farmland, grass and path. Black and grey concrete powder and obsidian count as well, and planted farmland still produces them.
Updrafts work in the nether and other UltraWarm dimensions, where the whole dimension is hot, and also in the end, underground and at night in caves, where stronger updrafts can exist. Thermal blocks produce updrafts during rain and thunderstorms, but dimensions without skylight still need the sun to be relevant to the rest of the list. Soarin' is published for Fabric and Forge for 1.18.2 – 1.20.1, with files for 1.20.1 as the latest release. It is client and server, so both the server and every player need it. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.
Key features
Updrafts from blocks
Hot and warm blocks generate updrafts that lift a flying player higher into the sky.
Stronger updrafts
Lava, fire, magma blocks and campfires give stronger updrafts than ordinary warm blocks.
Flight without rockets
A player can stay airborne on updrafts with little energy, without using firework rockets.
Birds and gliders
The updrafts suit birds, paragliders, hang gliders and similar flight on top of elytra.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who enjoy flight and gliding, and server owners who want updrafts on a shared world. Both sides need Soarin' for it to work.
How it compares
Rocket Jumper is server-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and published for Fabric 1.19.3, so it needs nothing installed on the client. ElytraKickstart is client-side only, is not open source, is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, and targets Fabric 1.21.8. Firework Frenzy runs on client and server with a custom license and covers 1.17 – 1.21.1 on Fabric and Quilt, so it works with a different loader set than Soarin'.
