Smithing Steel

by RightNowThough

Smithing Steel adds a steel tier between iron and diamond, with steel tools, armor, a hammer and a limestone-based crafting chain for Forge, Fabric and NeoForge.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1 – 1.20.4

What it does

Steel ingots come from a blast furnace run on crude iron, and steel tools and armor are upgraded through the smithing table. Steel armor sits above iron in protection and gives a slight knockback resistance, while steel tools are stronger than diamond tools but attack more slowly and wear down faster. Steel nuggets, ingots and blocks are included for storage and decoration.

Crude iron is crafted from one limestone dust, two coal and four raw iron, and it can also generate naturally. Limestone ore drops limestone dust when mined, and limestone sand and limestone dust appear in two variants, some of them generating naturally in the world. The smithing hammer can be obtained from a villager trade or crafted, and it deals the same damage as a steel sword while carrying high knockback. The mod is vanilla-friendly and aims to keep the vanilla progression intact.

Installation covers the server and each player's game. It is published for 1.20.1 and 1.20.4, with Fabric and Forge files for 1.20.1 and a NeoForge file for 1.20.4. Smithing Steel is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Its author notes say it was made with Mcreator, which means Fabric updates depend on a plugin.

Key features

  1. Steel armor and tools

Steel armor gives more protection than iron, and steel tools hit harder than diamond with slower attacks and lower durability.

  2. Steel smelting chain

Crude iron smelted in a blast furnace produces steel, which is then upgraded at the smithing table into tools and armor.

  3. Limestone resources

Limestone ore and limestone dust supply the first step of the chain, and limestone sand can generate naturally.

  4. Smithing hammer

A hammer with the damage of a steel sword and high knockback, obtainable from a villager trade or crafted.

Questions

Which loader should the server use for Smithing Steel?

Fabric, Forge and NeoForge files are published. The 1.20.1 build exists for Fabric and Forge, and the 1.20.4 build exists for NeoForge, so the loader must match the game version.

Does the server need Smithing Steel installed?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Will Fabric updates keep coming?

The author notes say the mod was made with Mcreator, so Fabric version updates wait for a plugin update.
