Shrooms of Darkness
by idoadmoni01
Shrooms of Darkness changes the mushroom biomes of Minecraft, adding a darker side with new mobs, weapons and a boss fight for Forge in 1.20.1.
What it does
The mod turns the Mushroom Fields into a biome with more life and more danger. Shroomer, a mob that starts as a small companion, can turn hostile, and hidden ruined temples deep in the biome hold the way to Shroomaster, a boss with a dark history. Defeating him yields the mod's strongest prize, which the author describes as a set of dark abilities.
Shrooms of Darkness is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 only, and it is published for no other game version. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. The license is All rights reserved, which means the mod is not open source. The current build is 1.0.0, released on 2025-07-28, the same day the first file was published.
Key features
Mushroom mushroom types
New mushroom types include effect shrooms that grant invisibility and other buffs, and explosive shrooms that can surprise enemies.
Huge decorative mushrooms
Oversized mushrooms placed across the biome give the world a magical look while staying part of the terrain.
Three weapons
A Shroom Sword summons a mushroom from the ground when it hits a mob, and a Darkshroom Sword inflicts the wither effect on foes.
Shroomaster's Core
The boss drops a core that a player can wield to use dark abilities inspired by Shroomaster.
Secret temples and boss battles
Hidden temples inside the Mushroom Fields hold Shroomaster, who must be summoned before the fight begins.

Use cases
Exploring the Mushroom Fields
Players who travel the biome find new mushroom types, decorative formations and temples that break up the quiet of an empty biome.
Boss fights
Players looking for a challenge can summon Shroomaster in a temple and take on the fight with the new weapons and core.
Who it’s for: Players who want a darker, more eventful Mushroom Fields and a boss fight with new gear, on Forge 1.20.1.
How it compares
Souene is a Forge mod for 1.20.1 that is client and server and not open source, under All rights reserved, so it has the same environment and license as Shrooms of Darkness. Blaze Sword Mod is also Forge, 1.20.1, client and server, and All rights reserved, but it adds a sword rather than a biome. Mushrooms Realm is open source under the MIT License and covers 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, so it reaches more game versions than this mod.
