Server Vote

by hennyhex

Server Vote lets online players start votes on server actions, such as changing the weather or giving items to everyone on the server.

ForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 1.21.1

What it does

A player starts a vote from chat with a command, and other players cast their votes for or against it. When the majority agrees, the server runs the command the vote was built around, such as a say message or a give command for every player. Actions are defined in a JSON config file, and each entry sets the base command, a description shown in chat and the votes required to pass.

The mod is server-side only, so only the server needs it and players join without installing anything. Forge and NeoForge files exist for Minecraft 1.16.5, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 1.0.3 as the latest release for both 1.20.1 on Forge and 1.21.1 on NeoForge, published on 2025-04-05. Server owners who want custom votes can add their own entries to the config, written in the same structure as the defaults. The config must be formatted correctly, because an invalid file keeps the vote list from loading.

Server Vote is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Server owners who want to tune the vote list edit the same JSON file, and the server reads it when it starts.

Key features

  1. Chat-started votes

Any online player can start a vote from chat, and the other players respond with a simple yes or no.

  2. Majority decision

When a majority agrees, the server runs the configured command, such as a weather change or a give command.

  3. JSON configuration

Votes are defined in a JSON file that sets the base command, description and command to run.

  4. Custom votes

Server owners can add their own votes to the config and set which command each one executes.

Questions

Does a player need Server Vote installed to join the server?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Which loaders does Server Vote support?

Forge and NeoForge. The latest Forge file is 1.0.3 for 1.20.1 and the latest NeoForge file is 1.0.3 for 1.21.1.

What happens if the config file is written incorrectly?

The config follows a JSON format, and it must be formatted correctly, so an invalid file keeps the vote list from loading.
