Scavenging
by ax3dgaming1
Scavenging lets modpack creators define custom loot for players who search blocks, either with a tool or with bare hands.
What it does
Scavenging is a lightweight, data-driven system for defining what a player receives when searching a block. Recipes can be written through datapacks or KubeJS, and each recipe can yield several loot outputs, each with its own drop chance. Tool durability consumption is optional, and bare-hand recipes are supported alongside tool-based ones.
Scavenging recipes added through datapacks or KubeJS appear automatically in JEI, so a pack author can check what each block yields without leaving the game. Settings are configurable through JSON. The mod is published for NeoForge 1.21.1 only, with version 1.0.0 as the latest file, and it runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Scavenging is released under the MIT License and is open source.
Key features
Datapack recipes
Scavenging recipes are defined in datapacks, so a pack can add or replace loot without changing mod code.
KubeJS scripting
KubeJS scripts can register scavenging recipes directly, which suits pack makers who already script their content.
Multiple loot outputs
A single search can produce several items, and each output can carry its own drop chance.
Tool and bare-hand searches
Recipes can require a tool, and tool durability use can be switched on or off, or a recipe can work with bare hands.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Modpack loot tables
Pack creators can give blocks custom drops tuned to the progression of their pack.
Early-game gathering
Bare-hand recipes allow players to gather materials before they craft any tools.
Who it’s for: Modpack creators and datapack authors who want to control block drops without writing Java code. Players of packs that include the mod receive the loot those creators define.
How it compares
Ender IO Custom Capacitors is a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1 under the MIT License, and it is not open source; it runs on client and server, as Scavenging does. KubeJS JEI Info Removal is an MIT-licensed NeoForge option for 1.21.1 – 1.21.2 that runs on the client alone, so it does not change the server side the way Scavenging does.
