RespectProxyOptions

by allinkdev

RespectProxyOptions lets the Minecraft client use SOCKS proxy settings, set through the JVM arguments and applied to the network connections it opens.

FabricClient-side onlyApache License 2.01.20.1

What it does

Without this mod, the client has no built-in way to route its traffic through a SOCKS proxy. The mod adds that support and works with Netty, the networking library the game uses. Once it is installed, a player can point the client at a proxy by setting the usual JVM arguments when starting the game.

The mod runs on the client only, and it is built for Fabric on 1.20.1. The latest file is 1.0.2, released on 2023-08-11. It is released under the Apache License 2.0, but the code is not open source.

Key features

  1. SOCKS proxy support

Adds SOCKS proxy settings to the Minecraft client, so game connections can be routed through a proxy server.

  2. JVM argument configuration

Proxy settings are read from built-in JVM arguments at launch, with no in-game menu needed.

  3. Netty integration

Works with Netty, so the proxy applies to the connections the client opens while playing.

Questions

Does RespectProxyOptions need to be installed on the server?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Which loader and version does RespectProxyOptions support?

It targets Fabric for Minecraft 1.20.1 only. No other loader or game version is listed.

Can the mod route traffic through Tor or an SSH tunnel?

The author text gives a dynamic SSH proxy and Tor as examples of proxies a client can be pointed at through these settings.

What the author says

Adds full SOCKS-proxy support to the Minecraft client by adding support for the built-in JVM arguments in the Netty pipeline. You can, for example, use this in order to proxy the Minecraft client through [Tor] or a [SSH dynamic proxy].
