Redstone Underwater

by dcqout

Redstone Underwater lets redstone components work in water, with a gamerule that controls whether redstone placed underwater uses its own color.

FabricClient and serverMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.21.11

What it does

Redstone dust, repeaters and comparators can be placed in water and keep working there. A game rule switches redstone that is waterlogged on or off, and another rule adds colored redstone so the underwater variant can look different from the vanilla red. Crafting redstone dust with glow ink sacs produces the underwater form, and the colors are still marked work in progress.

The mod requires Fabric API, and Waterlog is an optional companion that adds many water-friendly blocks, including buttons and levers. Redstone Underwater runs on Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.11 only, in both client and server environments, so the server and every player need it. The code is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and the latest Fabric file, 1.5.5 for 1.21.11, was published on 2026-02-09.

Key features

  1. Waterlogged redstone

Redstone dust and redstone components keep functioning when placed in water, instead of breaking as in vanilla.

  2. Underwater game rules

Game rules decide whether waterlogged redstone is enabled and whether colored redstone is used underwater.

  3. Glow ink crafting

Underwater redstone dust is crafted from redstone with glow ink sacs, giving the variant a separate recipe.

  4. Work in progress colors

The color options are described by the author as work in progress, so the palette may still change in later releases.

Questions

Does Redstone Underwater need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, so it must be installed next to Redstone Underwater on Fabric for 1.21.11.

Does the server need Redstone Underwater?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Is Waterlog needed to use Redstone Underwater?

No. Waterlog is an optional dependency that adds more water-friendly blocks such as buttons and levers, and the core features work without it.
