RationalCraft
by jfyx2025
RationalCraft changes a set of crafting and smelting recipes so that several vanilla outputs match the materials used to make them.
What it does
The mod replaces recipes that players often find unreasonable in vanilla. Three blocks now yield four stairs instead of six, two wool produce six carpets instead of three, and four copper blocks give sixteen cut copper. It also adds recipes that were missing, such as a signboard made from a half brick and a stick, and a half block that can be combined from two halves and split back again.
Stone cutters gain several new jobs: they turn wood planks into half bricks, stairs and fences, strip rust from copper and apply wax, and break down blocks such as coral, quartz, ice, dripstone and amethyst. Blast furnaces can recover metal products into their ingots, and furnaces can burn wool dye. Chests, funnels and shadow boxes are crafted with barrels instead of their vanilla materials, chain armor uses iron chains, and deepslate smelted in a blast furnace turns into cobblestone, which makes that loop renewable.
The mod runs on the server alone, so players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric only, with builds for 1.21.11, 26.2 and 26.3, and the latest file targets 26.3 as of 2026-10-01. The code is licensed under the MIT License, but the project is not open source.
Key features
Revised crafting outputs
Several vanilla recipes yield more or fewer items, for example stairs from three blocks and carpets from two wool.
Added missing recipes
Recipes for signboards, glass panels and half blocks are added where vanilla has none.
Stone cutter processing
The stone cutter converts planks, coral, quartz, ice and other blocks, and removes rust from copper while applying wax.
Blast furnace and furnace uses
Blast furnaces recover ingots from metal products, furnaces burn wool dye, and deepslate becomes cobblestone for a renewable supply.
Barrel and chain crafting
Chests, funnels and shadow boxes use barrels, and chain armor is crafted from iron chains.
