Rare Villages
Rare Villages makes villages much less common in vanilla Minecraft by spacing them further apart in world generation.
What it does
Without the mod, vanilla villages spawn roughly 34 chunks apart on average, with a floor of 8 chunks between any two. Rare Villages widens those gaps, so a player exploring a new world meets settlements far less often. The change applies to world generation, so it affects only worlds created or loaded with the mod present.
The mod is available in two versions. Version 1 spaces villages about 100 chunks apart, with a 50-chunk floor. Version 2 spaces them about 75 chunks apart, with a 34-chunk floor. Files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and a data pack variant is also offered for server platforms. Snapshot builds are published alongside the releases.
Only the server has to run the mod; a player who joins without it still plays normally, and the server can add it for the spacing change. The mod is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and is not open source. Version 1.0-V2+mod for 26.3 is the latest file on every loader, dated 2026-06-24, and the mod was first published on 2026-06-22.
Key features
Wider village spacing
Villages generate at larger average distances, which reduces how many settlements appear in a world.
Two spacing presets
Version 1 and version 2 offer different average spacings and minimum distances, so server owners can pick the density they want.
Vanilla structure rules
Only the placement of villages changes, and the village layouts and contents stay as they are in vanilla.
Data pack option
A data pack variant lets server platforms apply the spacing change without a mod loader.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.

This mod also publishes snapshot builds. Snapshots are not shown in the matrix.
Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners and players who want villages to be harder to find during world exploration. The mod is most useful on servers, since the server must run it.
How it compares
Village Spawn Point is server-side only, released under All rights reserved and not open source, with files for 1.16.5 – 26.3 across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Villages Revamped is server required with client optional, for 1.21 – 26.3 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and All rights reserved. Rare Villages changes village spacing rather than spawn points or village designs.
