Random Respawns

by Rosy Maple Mods

Random Respawns changes where players reappear after death, placing them at a random location instead of their spawn point, for a Forge server on 1.18.2.

What it does

When a player dies, the mod picks a new respawn position at random rather than returning them to the bed or world spawn. Its config sets the radius around the world origin in which that new position can fall, and the author notes the option to keep respawns in the middle of blocks instead of at corners. Random respawns can also be tied to the place of death, and a clear-weather option lets the server choose a dry, calm respawn spot, while the time can be set to 0 at death.

The mod only needs to run on the server, so players join without installing anything. It is published for Forge and the 1.18.2 game version only, with 1.18.2-1.1 as the latest file, released on 2024-06-30. The first release came out on 2024-06-20. It is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, is not open source, and public links exist for the source code and the issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Random respawn location

After a death, the player reappears at a randomly chosen position rather than at a fixed spawn point.

  2. Configurable radius

A config option sets the radius around the world origin inside which new respawn locations are picked.

  3. Block-centred placement

Respawns land in the middle of a block instead of at its corner, so players do not start on an edge.

  4. Weather-aware respawns

Random respawns can account for the place of death and for weather, with an option that avoids oceans and hazards.

Use cases

Semi-hardcore survival

Losing a life sends the player somewhere unfamiliar, which makes death a bigger setback in a survival world.

Server-side rule changes

Server owners who want a different respawn rule can change the radius and weather options in the config.

Who it’s for: Server owners running Forge 1.18.2 who want deaths to send players to unpredictable places, and players on those servers who do not need to install anything.

What the author says

This mod changes the way respawns in the game work by completely randomizing your respawn location on each death, making it almost semi-hardcore mode. Mod allows you to configure options related to the radius from the world origin within which the new respawn location will be determined, weather the random respawns…
