Quality of Life Changes

by mega7

Quality of Life Changes is a data pack for Minecraft Java Edition that tweaks several vanilla recipes and item behaviors without changing how the game feels.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.20 – 1.21.8

What it does

The pack adds around 30 new recipes that mostly appear in the recipe book, along with changes to existing ones. Two sticks and one armor stand craft an armed armor stand, and a glass pane with an item frame crafts a diaphanous item frame, which glows like a glow item frame but stays invisible. Blaze powder with glowstone dust makes a light block whose level depends on how much glowstone is placed in the crafting table, scaling from level 1 up to 15.

Several behaviors change as well. Dyeing glass no longer needs uncolored glass first, leashed mobs take no fall damage, piglin trades can use gold material and piglin babies no longer steal gold, and horses, donkeys, mules and camels can cross water gaps. Cobblestone-related recipes are easier to make, and furnaces and droppers can be crafted from any stone type, including basalt and granite.

The pack is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 12 release versions, 1.20 – 1.21.8, under the MIT License. It is not open source. The server must run it, while players may install it as well, and neither side is forced to add it.

Key features

  1. Armed armor stands

A special armor stand with arms is crafted from two sticks and a normal armor stand, and breaking it drops a normal armor stand back.

  2. Diaphanous item frames

Invisible item frames are crafted from one glass pane and one item frame, and they work alongside normal glow item frames.

  3. Adjustable light blocks

Glowstone amount in the crafting table sets the light block's light level from 1 up to 15.

  4. Easier stone recipes

Furnaces and droppers accept any stone type, and cobblestone-related recipes need fewer steps.
