Photophobic Mobs (Fabric & Sinytra)
by Walzayza
Photophobic Mobs makes hostile mobs react to light, heat and fire, so zombies, skeletons, creepers and spiders avoid lit areas.
What it does
Zombies and skeletons retreat from torches, lanterns and other light sources, while creepers and spiders are drawn toward bright lights instead. Holding or dropping a light source near monsters pushes them back. Mobs also scan for campfires, fire and lava and move away from them, and fleeing mobs occasionally show smoke or angry villager particles.
The mod needs Fabric Loader 0.15.0 or newer and Fabric API. It is published for Fabric and Quilt across 25 release versions, 1.19.4 – 26.3, and the server is the side that needs it, while players may add it as well. The code is not open source; the mod is released under All rights reserved. Bats also wake from ceiling roosts and flutter around torches before fleeing.
Key features
Light avoidance
Zombies and skeletons move away from illuminated blocks, and monsters seek darker areas when lights are placed.
Held and dropped light
Holding a torch or dropping one on the ground makes nearby monsters back away from it.
Fire and lava panic
Mobs search for dangerous heat sources such as campfires, fire and lava and pathfind away from them.
Attraction of moths-like mobs
Night-roaming creepers and spiders are pulled toward bright lights, so lit bases can draw night raids.

Use cases
Night defense of a base
Lit sanctuaries become targets for creepers and spiders, so a builder can use lights to shape where night attacks come from.
Survival with light as a tool
Torches and lanterns become tactical items, since they can keep zombies and skeletons away or pull other monsters in.
Who it’s for: Players who want hostile mobs to react to light and fire, and server owners who run survival worlds where these reactions change how night unfolds.
How it compares
Zombies Hates Light is server-side only, published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.20.1 – 26.1, and is not open source. Light Level 7 Spawning is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and built for Fabric only, for 1.20.1.
