Overheat
by Dustfired
Overheat adds a hidden heat meter that fills while players stay in the Nether, and it can end in burn death if the meter maxes out.
What it does
The heat meter begins to build the moment a player enters the Nether, accompanied by warnings and audio cues. Standing on fire or magma blocks raises the meter faster, and the two effects stack for a triple rate. Falling into lava without Fire Resistance fills the meter instantly. Once the meter maxes out, the player takes burning damage until death, so the mod gives a fair amount of time after entering a new world's Nether before the meter can reach its limit.
Drinking potions lowers the heat meter by a flat amount, and Fire Resistance stops the meter from ticking entirely, while a partially filled meter stays where it is. Having Fire Resistance active halves the decrease rate for the duration of the effect, and leaving the Nether makes the meter drop quickly, though it takes some time before it returns to empty. Enchantments that protect against fire or help with walking on frozen surfaces lower the meter even faster, but Fire Resistance overrides their bonuses and takes priority. It is required on the server and optional for players.
Key features
Hidden heat meter
A meter that stays out of sight begins filling on entering the Nether and signals its progress through warnings and sounds.
Heat sources
Fire and magma blocks increase the rate, and standing on both at once triples it, while lava falls fill the meter instantly.
Potions and cooling
Drinking potions lowers the meter by a fixed amount, and an active Fire Resistance effect halts the meter or halves its decrease rate.
Enchantment interaction
Fire Protection and Frost Walker speed the meter's decrease, and Fire Resistance takes precedence over both enchantments.

The Nether is a really hot place but have you always found it odd that you can just... walk around in the nether just fine and not worry about burning alive due to the extreme heat of being in literal HELL? Well with Overheat, that all changes! You can contact me with feedback by messaging "dustfired" on Discord!…
