Obscure Tooltips
by Obscuria
Obscure Tooltips restyles item tooltips in the game with animated borders, particle effects and ornaments, and it can render a 3D preview of armor, tools and weapons inside the tooltip.
What it does
Tooltips gain smooth animations, glowing borders and faint particle effects. Styles can layer several visual elements, including animated ornaments, so items with different styles look distinct from one another. The mod is data-driven and modular, which lets a player combine styles, define conditions for when a style applies, and adjust each element.
When a tooltip grows taller than the screen, automatic smooth scrolling keeps the text readable without changing the interface size. Long names, lore and stats are wrapped so they stay aligned inside the tooltip. The mod requires Fragmentum, and ModernObscure is one of the mods that requires Obscure Tooltips in turn. Installation is client-side only, so the server does not need the mod, and it is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.12.2 – 1.21.11. The code is not open source; a custom license applies.

Use cases
Reading long item descriptions
Modded or lore-heavy items with long descriptions remain readable because the tooltip scrolls instead of overflowing the screen.
Checking gear before equipping it
A player can look at a piece of armor or a weapon in 3D from the inventory without changing the equipped items.
Who it’s for: Players who want more visual detail in item tooltips, and modpack authors who want to define custom tooltip styles through the data-driven format.
