NgrokLAN Reyoung

by fkrystal

NgrokLAN Reyoung lets a player open a singleplayer world to friends over the internet through an Ngrok tunnel, with no port forwarding.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.16 – 1.16.5

What it does

The mod is a remake of an earlier Ngrok-LAN project for Minecraft 1.16.5, built for the Fabric loader. A player with a free Ngrok account starts a tunnel from the game, and Ngrok returns a link that friends can use to connect to the hosted singleplayer world from anywhere. Ngrok routes the traffic through its datacentres, so the router of the host does not have to forward any port. The mod is client-side only, so only the host runs it and friends do not need to install anything.

Installation requires Cloth Config API, LAN Operators and Mod Menu alongside Fabric Loader and Fabric API. Getting it running involves adding a 1.16.5 profile to the launcher, dropping the mod JAR into the mods folder, and confirming that the Ngrok auth token is valid with the right region chosen. The files target 1.16 – 1.16.5, with 1.16.5-1.0rc1 as the latest release, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Tunnel start from the game

Starting a tunnel from the game makes the host's singleplayer world reachable by a Ngrok link.

  2. No port forwarding

Ngrok exposes the local game over the internet, so the router of the host needs no forwarded port.

  3. Shareable link

Each session gives a link that friends can enter to join the hosted world.

  4. Ngrok region and token settings

The auth token and the region are set in the mod options and must be valid before a tunnel can open.

Questions

Which mods does NgrokLAN Reyoung require?

Cloth Config API, LAN Operators and Mod Menu are required, along with Fabric Loader and Fabric API. All of them must be installed next to the mod.

Does a friend need to install the mod?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Does the mod need a paid Ngrok account?

No. The mod works with a free Ngrok account, which allows one online tunnel at a time, so only one world can be hosted at once.

Which Minecraft versions does the mod support?

The files cover 1.16 – 1.16.5, and 1.16.5-1.0rc1 is the latest Fabric file.
