Nether Spawn

by AnDragon

Nether Spawn lets a new world begin in the Nether instead of the Overworld, with the Nether generated as the world's normal terrain.

FabricForgeServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21

What it does

When a world is created, a Go tab in the world-creation screen lets the player select a World Type that places the start in the Nether. The Overworld and the Nether are generated in reversed roles, so the first spawn happens in the dimension most players would otherwise reach last.

The mod is a simple option for survival and adventure worlds that want a different start. Because beds do not work in the Nether, the respawn point has to be set with a respawn anchor placed there. The server must run the mod, while players may add an optional resource pack for the visual side and need nothing else.

Nether Spawn is published for Fabric and Forge, and as a data pack, for 1.21 only. The code is released under the MIT License, and the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Nether start worlds

New worlds begin in the Nether, with the Nether generated as the normal dimension for spawning.

  2. Reversed world generation

The Overworld and the Nether swap their usual roles during world generation, so the layout follows the reversed setup.

  3. World Type selection

The Go tab in the world-creation screen offers the World Type option that selects this start.

  4. Respawn anchor requirement

Beds do not work in the Nether, so players set their spawn point with a respawn anchor there.

Questions

Which loaders can run Nether Spawn?

Nether Spawn is published for Fabric and Forge. It is also available as a data pack on 1.21.

Why does a bed not set the spawn point in the Nether?
