NaNny

by Qther

With NaNny installed on a server, entities whose health or absorption has been set to a non-number value by other mods get cleaned up as the events fire.

ForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.16.5 – 26.1.2

What it does

NaNny hooks into the living entity damage, attack, heal and hurt events. When an event would leave an entity with an invalid health or absorption value, the mod cancels the event and can set the entity's health to a configured percentage of its maximum instead. Logging of these cases can be switched on or off in the configuration file.

The mod runs on the server only, so players connecting to it need nothing installed. It is built for Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.16.5 – 26.1.2, and the code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. Source code and an issue tracker are linked from the project page.

Key features

  1. Damage event filtering

Attack and damage events that would leave an entity's health invalid are cancelled before they take effect.

  2. Optional healing

A setting decides whether an affected entity is healed, and the target health is a percentage of its maximum.

  3. Event logging

Cases where an entity was left with an invalid value can be written to the log, which helps identify the source.

  4. Configuration file

Three options control healing, the target health percentage and logging, with defaults of true, the full maximum and true.

Use cases

Server maintenance

Server owners running packs with many mods can stop invalid health values from spreading across entities without removing the mods that produce them.

Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack maintainers who run Forge or NeoForge servers and see entities behaving incorrectly because of invalid health or absorption values.

Questions

Does NaNny need to be installed on clients?

No. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything.

Which loaders does NaNny support?

It is published for Forge and NeoForge. The latest Forge file is for 1.20.4, and the latest NeoForge file is for 26.1.2.

What does the healing option change?

When doHeal is enabled, an entity whose health would become invalid is set to the percentage of maximum health given by the health option, which defaults to the full maximum.

Can the logging be turned off?

Yes. The log option is true by default and can be set to false in the configuration file to stop logging these events.
