Mom's Love

by cnlimiter

Mom's Love keeps a player's items after death on servers where keepInventory is off, for players the server owner chooses.

What it does

Server owners and modpack authors often turn keepInventory off for the whole world, and players who die then lose their gear. Mom's Love lets the server grant an item-keeping protection to selected players while the global rule stays false. Once a protected player dies, the items are kept, and the protection is applied through the server's own player settings rather than through a client-side change.

A protection can be triggered when a player says a configured keyword in chat, which sets the mother's protection on that player. Items are not dropped on death, so a player can end a bad run without losing everything carried. The mod runs on the server only, so players join with a vanilla client and need nothing installed. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with the latest build 1.2.1 for 1.21 released on 2024-07-12, and the code is released under the MIT License as open source.

Key features

  1. Per-player keep inventory

Items are kept after death for individual players, even when the server's keepInventory rule is set to false.

  2. Keyword activation

A configured keyword said in chat sets the protection on the speaking player, without an operator command.

  3. Server-only install

Only the server runs the mod, so clients connect without any local installation.

Use cases

Modpacks with keepInventory off

Modpack authors who disable keepInventory for difficulty can still reward chosen players with item protection.

Trusted players on a server

Server managers can give protection to particular players, such as moderators or returning members, while others keep the default rule.

Who it’s for: Server managers and modpack authors who run survival servers with keepInventory disabled and want to protect certain players' items on death.

What the author says

Introduction: Death is an essential part of the game, But from simple tombstones to teleport back to the site of death to simply dying without dropping, the game seems to be heading toward the point of no return. There are always server managers or modpack authors who don't turn on keepInventory for whatever reason…
