Modern Sounds for Beta

by JockeyPhilosopher

Modern Sounds for Beta gives Beta builds a set of added sound effects, covering the furnace, water, minecarts, boats, squids, ladders and free fall.

What it does

Players who want richer audio in an early Beta world get new sounds for several activities: a crackling furnace, entering and leaving water, an underwater ambient loop, rolling minecarts, boats moving on water, squids idling and reacting when hurt or killed, and ladder climbing. A wind sound plays while the player falls freely.

The mod runs on the Babric loader and needs Glass Config API and StationAPI alongside it. Only the client needs it, so servers and other players can join without installing it. Builds target b1.7.3 only, with snapshot builds published, and the code is open source under the MIT License, with its source publicly available. Files were first published on 2026-09-08 and last updated on 2026-09-15.

Key features

  1. Furnace fire sound

A crackling sound plays while a furnace burns, so active smelting is audible from nearby.

  2. Water entry and exit

Entering and leaving water each play their own sound, marking the transition between air and water.

  3. Underwater ambience

An ambient loop plays while the player is underwater, giving the sound a continuous background.

  4. Minecart and boat sounds

Minecarts play a rolling sound while moving, and boats make their own sounds on water.

  5. Squid and ladder sounds

Squids get idle, hurt and death sounds, and climbing a ladder plays its own sound.

How it compares

Full comparison

Clear Water is client-side only, open source under the MIT License and built for b1.7.3 on Babric, so it covers the same version and loader without adding sounds. MaterialExcavator is a client and server mod for Fabric and Babric on b1.7.3, released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and it changes mining rather than audio. Modern Sounds for Beta needs only the client, which keeps it simpler to install on a server.
