MobRandomizer

by Kiriyashiki

When a world is created, MobRandomizer assigns each mob a replacement, so piglins can appear as llamas and other swaps happen across the world.

FabricServer-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19.4 – 26.3

What it does

Randomization runs on the server and remaps mob spawns: each chosen mob type is paired with another mob type, and spawns of the first type are replaced by the second. The pairings cover natural spawns as well as mobs summoned by structures, and they are generated once when a world loads. Because the result is derived from the world seed, the same seed produces the same mapping every time.

Mobs that cannot spawn naturally, such as the giant and the illusioner, are excluded from the process, and players or server owners can choose further mobs to leave out. On first use the mod creates a configuration file named mob randomizer.toml in the .minecraft/config folder, where the mob ids to randomize are listed. The author recommends leaving the Ender Dragon on the blacklist, since randomizing it can cause issues. MobRandomizer requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, across 16 release versions, 1.19.4 – 26.3. It is server-side only, so players join without installing it, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Seed-based mob remapping

Each mob type is assigned a replacement when the world loads, and the mapping follows the world seed.

  2. Natural and structure spawns

Replacements apply to natural spawns and to mobs summoned by structures, not only to one spawn source.

  3. Excluded mobs

Mobs that cannot spawn naturally are skipped, and the mobs to exclude can be chosen in the configuration.

  4. TOML configuration

A mob randomizer.toml file in the config folder lists the mob ids to randomize and the ones to leave out.

Questions

Does MobRandomizer need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, and the mod is published for the Fabric loader only.

Do players need to install MobRandomizer?

No. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything.

Why does the same seed give the same mob swaps?

The mapping is generated from the world seed when the world loads, so the same seed yields the same results.

Should the Ender Dragon be randomized?

The author recommends leaving it on the blacklist in the mob randomizer.toml configuration, since randomizing it can cause issues.

A Minecraft mod that effectively randomizes mobs by remapping mob spawns. By randomly assigning every mob spawn another random mob, each mob will have another mob replace it for all its instances.
