Mob Dismemberment [UNOFFICIAL MODERN PORT]

by ThatSoulyGuy

Mob Dismemberment [UNOFFICIAL MODERN PORT] makes slain mobs break apart into limbs and heads instead of collapsing into the standard death animation.

ForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Killed zombies, skeletons, creepers and other mobs shatter into body parts that scatter across the ground, so their bodies no longer simply disappear. Explosions from TNT, creepers and similar sources send the pieces flying further than ordinary deaths do, and blood effects can be tuned in the config file. The mod carries over a concept first built by iChun more than a decade ago, and the original concept and implementation credit goes to that author.

The mod runs on Forge for 1.20.1 only, with the latest file 1.20.1-8.0.0 published on 2026-01-21. It is client-side only, so players install it on their own game and servers do not need it. Its source code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the issue tracker is available on GitHub for reporting problems.

Key features

  1. Gibbed mob deaths

Mobs break into body parts when killed, replacing the standard death animation with scattered limbs.

  2. Explosion-driven gibs

Blasts from TNT, creepers and other explosions launch the remains farther than ordinary kills do.

  3. Rolling heads and scattering limbs

Heads roll and limbs scatter across the ground after a mob is killed.

  4. Configurable blood effects

A generated config file lets players adjust blood effects and other preferences to their taste.

Use cases

Combat-heavy play

Players who fight large groups of zombies and skeletons see each kill end in visible carnage instead of a quiet disappearance.

Who it’s for: Players on Forge 1.20.1 who want a gorier kill effect in single-player or on a server, without requiring the server to run anything extra.

What the author says

Killing mobs in vanilla Minecraft feels a bit… anticlimactic. They just poof into smoke and drop some items. Where's the impact? Where's the crunch? Mob Dismemberment fixes that. When you slay zombies, skeletons, creepers, and other mobs, they don't just disappear — they break apart into pieces. Limbs scatter. Heads…
