Mob Difficulty RPG
by SparkiTV
Mob Difficulty RPG scales mob strength by how far a player is from the world spawn, so monsters grow tougher the farther one travels.
What it does
Mobs gain more health and damage the farther they spawn from the world spawn point. The world is split into nine level zones, and each zone adds its own attribute changes, such as speed, resistance and knockback. An area level display shows the difficulty of the zone a player is standing in, updating in real time.
Each dimension has its own scaling multipliers for the Overworld, the Nether and the End, and any other dimension follows the Overworld's settings. The in-game HUD editor lets players move the level display and choose when it is visible. Installation is needed on the client and the server, and the mod is built for Fabric 1.1.2 on 1.20.1 only. The code is All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.
Key features
Distance-based scaling
Mob health and damage rise with distance from the world spawn point, so farther areas feel harder.
Nine level zones
The world is divided into nine zones, each with extra attribute changes such as speed, resistance and knockback.
Per-dimension multipliers
Scaling multipliers can be set separately for the Overworld, the Nether and the End.
Area level HUD
A display shows the difficulty level of the current area and updates as the player moves.
In-game HUD editor
The HUD position and visibility can be changed in the game without editing config files.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Long exploration
Players who travel far from spawn meet tougher mobs, which adds a progression curve to a single world.
Server progression
Server owners can tune multipliers per dimension to shape how difficulty grows for all players.
Who it’s for: Players who want distance-based mob difficulty in survival or RPG-style play, and server owners who want to set scaling for each dimension.
How it compares
LagSpikeLord's Difficulty Overhaul is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1 that runs on the client and server, like Mob Difficulty RPG, and is not open source. Bossmode is a server-side only Fabric mod for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 under the MIT License, so players need nothing installed. Scaling Mobs is also server-side only, open source under the MIT License and covers 1.20.1 – 1.21.10.
