MineBackup

by Leafuke

MineBackup gives a world a bridge to the MineBackup desktop application, so saves can be backed up and restored from inside the game.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2 – 26.3

What it does

Players use the mb command series in chat to manage world saves directly: create a backup, browse history, restore a save or set a schedule for automatic backups. A restore counts down a configurable number of seconds before it runs, and mb stop, mb cancel or mb confirm let the player skip ahead or cancel it. Real-time messages from the desktop application appear in game chat, reporting whether a backup starts, succeeds or fails.

The mod also supports dedicated servers, where operators browse backups and restore them much as they would on a single-player world, with the work handed to a bundled restart sidecar. The sidecar restarts the server through its own start script once a restore finishes. Hot restore works on dedicated servers and on singleplayer and LAN worlds. The desktop application and the KnotLink service must run for the mod to function, and the mod is required on the server while clients may leave it out. Fabric API is required, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.18.2 – 26.3 under the MIT License, which is open source.

Key features

  1. Chat backup commands

The mb command series creates, lists and restores backups from the chat window, so no external tool is needed during play.

  2. Restore safety countdown

A restore waits a configurable number of seconds before it runs, and mb stop or mb cancel stops it during the wait.

  3. Dedicated server support

Backup and restore browsing work on dedicated servers the same way as in singleplayer, with a bundled sidecar that restarts the server after a restore.

  4. FolderRewind-triggered restore

A restore can be started from the FolderRewind interface, and both control surfaces stay in sync during the same hot-restore flow.

Questions

Does MineBackup need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, and the mod is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, so the loader must match the installed build.

Must the mod be installed on every player's client?

Not necessarily. Server owners install it, and players can join with or without it.

What must run besides the mod?

The MineBackup desktop application must run in the background while playing, and the KnotLink service must be installed on the computer for the two to communicate properly.

Which mod depends on MineBackup?

Just Enough Accidents (JEA) requires MineBackup, so it needs this mod installed alongside it.
