More Fox Variants API
by AkashiiKun
More Fox Variants API is a Fabric library that lets other mods register new fox variants and summon them by name.
What it does
The library implements new fox variants through a lightweight API, so other mods can add their own variants while staying compatible with one another. Each variant has its own namespace, the same kind of namespaced identifier that Minecraft uses for most other registries but not for some entity variants.
Spawning is set up with a custom biome tag, which tells the game in which biomes a fox variant may appear. A fox of a given variant is spawned by writing the variant as a text value in the entity's NBT data, and the bundled examples demonstrate spawning the vanilla snow variant alongside a custom one.
Client and server both need the library, since the variants have to exist on each side. Files are published for Fabric only, for game versions 26.1 – 26.2, with 1.0.0+26.2-fabric as the latest file for 26.2. The license is All rights reserved, so the code is not open source. Public links exist for the source code, issue tracker and wiki.
Key features
Custom fox variants
Other mods can register their own fox variants through the API, keeping their variants separate from the vanilla ones.
Biome spawning tag
A custom biome tag controls which biomes fox variants can spawn in, without changing the vanilla fox setup.
Summon by variant name
Foxes are summoned with a string value for the variant in NBT data, with included examples for vanilla and custom variants.
Modding documentation
Information on using the API for modding is found on the project wiki.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Modpacks with extra foxes
A pack author can add fox variants from several mods that use this API, since each registers its variants under its own namespace.
Mod developers adding variants
Developers who want fox variants in their own mod can register them through the API and place them with the biome tag.
Who it’s for: Mod developers who want to add fox variants and pack authors who combine several fox-variant mods on Fabric.

What the author says
Summoning fox can be now done with a string value as the "variant" nbt. This is similar to the namespace system minecraft uses almost anywhere else but doesn't for some entity variants included the fox's.
