Lightspeed Boat
by yezhiyi9670
Lightspeed Boat lets a boat reach very high speeds on water, using flowing water and blue ice as the accelerating surfaces, for players who want fast automated travel.
What it does
Lightspeed Boat enables a state called lightspeed. A boat enters it once its velocity passes a threshold of 2.4 m/s and the required conditions hold, after which horizontal velocity decays only slightly and the boat can keep speeding up. Speed is capped at 72.73 m/s by default, a protective limit that keeps movement from exceeding what the game handles reliably.
The mod is built around the mechanics of Bedrock Edition, where boats receive friction from slabs and so on. Lightspeed Boat brings a version of that behavior to Java Edition, described by its author as half-fixed. Soul Sand, Bubble Columns and Trapdoors are needed for the accelerating setups, and the author describes a figure in the text showing how to build them.
Lightspeed Boat is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric and Forge, for 1.18.1 – 1.21. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.
Key features
Lightspeed state
A boat switches into lightspeed once its speed exceeds the threshold, which changes how drag and movement are applied.
Speed cap
Speed is limited to 72.73 m/s by default, so boats cannot exceed the chosen maximum.
Driving and turning controls
Settings can stop the player from driving or turning the boat, so the boat keeps its course while the lightspeed state runs.
Automated travel
Accelerating boats using flowing water and blue ice allow fast travel systems that players can automate.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want fast travel on Java Edition and builders who set up automated transport systems. Both client and server need the mod for it to work correctly.
How it compares
Schpeedy Boats is client and server, open source under the MIT License, and published only for Fabric 1.20 – 1.20.1. Cardinal Ice Boats is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge from 1.17.1 onward. On that mod, installing it on one side is enough, and neither side needs it. Boats Motion Rework needs to be on the server, while players may leave it out, and it is not open source.

What the author says
The cool way to travel fast, now in Minecraft™ Java Edition! Lightspeed boat is originally a bug feature in Bedrock Edition, where boats receives no friction when on slabs. This allows for accelerating boats to enourmously high speeds using flowing water. (Note: It is now half-fixed in Bedrock Edition)
