What it does

Content mods that depend on libnine get a collection of common building blocks from one place. The library bundles code that several projects by its author had each needed, instead of repeating it in every mod. Its parts include NBT serialization generated from annotated fields, a set of prefab capability implementations, a generic recipe registry, and a GUI component system with the matching sync code. Parametric item models that depend on item stack state are covered as well.

libnine runs on client and server, so both sides need it when a dependent mod is installed. Files are published for Forge only, for 1.12.2 alone. The latest Forge file is 1.2.2, dated 2025-07-20, and the first release dates from 2023-10-25. The project is open source under the MIT License, with public source code and an issue tracker. Two catalog mods, Tinkers' Evolution and ALGANE, list it as a requirement.

Key features

  1. NBT serialization from annotations

Fields marked with annotations are turned into NBT byte stream serializers automatically, so mods avoid writing that code by hand.

  2. Capability implementations

A set of ready-made capability implementations covers common cases that content mods otherwise code themselves.

  3. Generic recipe registry

One registry handles recipes for different kinds of machines and crafting setups, under a single system.

  4. GUI components with sync code

Interface components come with the code that keeps their state synchronized between server and client.
