Ladders Made Better

by MrMisc29

Ladders Made Better, a NeoForge server-side mod, changes how ladders place, climb and support the player, adding multi-placement and floating ladders.

NeoForgeServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

Players hold a stack of ladders and scroll the mouse wheel to choose how many to place in one action, up to a configurable limit. The mod can also place ladders floating in the air, supported by chains or by ladders placed downward or upward, with the upward chain behavior set in the config.

Climb speed on ladders is raised above vanilla and can be tuned between 0.2 and 0.5, with 0.4 as the default. The mod also lets players jump from and onto ladders without losing momentum, which vanilla movement does not allow.

The mod is published for NeoForge only, with one release for 1.21.11 dated 2026-01-28 and builds covering 1.21.1 – 1.21.11. It is server-side only, so clients do not need it, and it is released under All rights reserved. Its settings are stored in lmb-common.toml, created the first time the mod runs.

Key features

  1. Multiple ladder placement

Holding a stack of ladders and scrolling places several at once, with the held count and total shown on screen.

  2. Floating ladder placement

Ladders can be placed in the air and held up by a chain or a support ladder, placed downward or upward.

  3. Adjustable climb speed

The ladder climb speed is raised over vanilla and can be set in the config between 0.2 and 0.5.

  4. Jumping from ladders

The player can jump on and off ladders without the stutter that normally breaks movement.

Questions

Does Ladders Made Better need to be installed on the client?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Which loader does Ladders Made Better support?

Only NeoForge. Files are not published for Fabric, Forge or Quilt.

How is the multiple placement limit set?

The totalLaddersPerPlace value in lmb-common.toml sets the maximum, from 128 to 400. MultiLadder placement is enabled through canPlaceMultipleLadders, which is true by default.

Can floating ladders be placed without a chain?

Chains are one support option. Floating ladder placement also needs shouldPlaceFloatingLaddersUpwards set to true for upward placement.
