Juvenile Preserve

by LitQA

Juvenile Preserve lets players freeze a baby mob in its young form for good, using a Poisonrot Potato that is crafted from three ingredients.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT License1.18.2 – 26.3

What it does

A baby mob normally grows up on its own over time. Feeding it a Poisonrot Potato locks its growth, so it stays in the baby form permanently and will not mature naturally. The item is made from Rotten Flesh, Poisonous Potato and Pufferfish, and the process takes only two steps.

The mod covers vanilla animals such as cows and pigs, along with modded mobs that have a baby form. Other mods can add their own entities to the same behavior through a tag, so mobs from those mods can be preserved in the same way. Juvenile Preserve is published for Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.18.2 – 26.3, and the code is released under the MIT License without being open source.

The server and every player need the mod installed. The latest files are 1.2.1 for 1.20.1 on Forge and 1.2.5 for 26.3 on NeoForge.

Key features

  1. Permanent baby form

A fed baby mob keeps its current appearance and size, so it does not grow into an adult.

  2. Poisonrot Potato

The lock item is crafted from Rotten Flesh, Poisonous Potato and Pufferfish, and it is used only on baby mobs.

  3. Tag-based expansion

A tag named juv_preserve:dwarfedable lets other mods add entities that can be locked in their baby form.

  4. Vanilla and modded mobs

Animals such as cows and pigs are covered, as are custom mobs from other mods that have a baby stage.

Use cases

Keeping a farm small

A player who wants compact livestock can feed each baby animal once so the herd does not grow into adults that take more space.

Pet-sized companions

Players who raised a baby mob and want it to stay small can lock its growth and keep its young look.

Who it’s for: Players who keep animals or raise baby mobs and want them to stay young, and server owners who want the same growth control for their players. Modpack authors can add their own entities through the tag.

Questions

Does Juvenile Preserve need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Which loaders does Juvenile Preserve support?

The mod is published for Forge and NeoForge. The latest Forge file is 1.2.1 for 1.20.1, and the latest NeoForge file is 1.2.5 for 26.3.

How can another mod make its mobs work with Juvenile Preserve?

The mod reads the tag juv_preserve:dwarfedable, so an entity added to that tag can be locked in its baby form by a Poisonrot Potato.
