Jagm's Kiwis

by J4gm

Jagm's Kiwis puts kiwi birds into most forest biomes, and players can breed them, collect their eggs and make use of the kiwifruit they drop.

What it does

Kiwi birds spawn in most forest biomes. Now and then a kiwi digs up items such as seeds, berries, and occasionally iron or gold nuggets, following a loot table that a data pack can change. Breeding works with seeds, and the eggs hatch and behave like chicken eggs. Killing a kiwi bird yields fruit that can be eaten or turned into a dessert. A small share of spawns are laser kiwis instead.

The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 17 release versions 1.20.1 – 26.2, and it is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license, which is not open source. The source code and issue tracker are public. The mod was first published on 2023-07-18 and last updated on 2026-07-25.

The author made the mod as a gift and drew inspiration from Lordloss's Cute Kiwi Birds, a project that has seen no recent work. Everything in this mod was made fresh for it.

Key features

  1. Forest kiwi birds

Kiwi birds spawn in most forest biomes, so they appear in common natural terrain without extra setup.

  2. Digging for items

Kiwis occasionally dig up seeds, berries and sometimes iron or gold nuggets, with the loot table adjustable in a data pack.

  3. Breeding and eggs

Kiwis breed with seeds, and their eggs hatch the same way chicken eggs do.

  4. Kiwifruit and dessert

Killed kiwi birds leave fruit that players can eat or use to make a pavlova dessert.

  5. Laser kiwis

A small chance exists for a laser kiwi to spawn in place of a normal one.

What the author says

Welcome! This is a mod I made as a moving present for a friend who went to live in New Zealand. I decided to polish it up and release it to the public. It is inspired by the Cute Kiwi Birds mod by Lordloss_ which hasn't been updated since 1.16. All code and assets are original. If you want to help translate the mod…
