Improved Shield
by RoxyCoding
Improved Shield changes how the shield behaves in combat, letting players attack while still blocking and move at normal speed.
What it does
Shield use gets several changes under the Improved Shield name. A player can attack while holding a block, and walking while blocking keeps normal speed. The shield's display position is lowered, so more of the view ahead stays visible during a guard.
Changes need Fabric and are published for 1.21 – 1.21.11 in 12 release versions; the latest Fabric file is for 1.21.11, dated 2025-12-11. Client and server both need the mod, since it is a client and server mod. Server-side features stay disabled unless the server administrator explicitly enables them.
Key features
Attacking while blocking
Holding a shield no longer stops the player from swinging a weapon at the same time.
Normal walking speed
Movement while blocking keeps the usual speed instead of the slowdown of vanilla shield use.
Lowered shield display
The shield is drawn lower on screen, which leaves more of the view ahead visible during a block.
Opt-in server features
Features that touch server behavior remain off until the server administrator turns them on.
