Horse Combat Controls
by pitbox46
Horse Combat Controls replaces vanilla horse steering with Mount and Blade style controls, so riders accelerate, decelerate and steer with the movement keys.
What it does
Once a player presses Y while mounted, the horse follows combat controls: forward accelerates, backward decelerates, and left and right steer. Pressing Y again returns the horse to vanilla controls. The mode is meant for riders who fight from horseback rather than simply travel.
The server and every player need the mod installed. A server owner can lock all players into combat mode through the horsecombatcontrols-server.toml file in the world's serverconfig folder, and the same file can be copied into the defaultconfigs folder to apply it to every new world. Fabric API is required on Fabric, and the code is open source under the MIT License.
Files cover 1.20.1 – 1.21.4 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with 11 release versions. The latest Fabric and NeoForge files are 1.0.5 for 1.21.4, published 2025-02-22, and the latest Forge file is 1.0.3 for 1.20.6, published 2025-07-19.

Use cases
Mounted combat on a server
Server owners who run mounted battles or arena events can lock the whole server into combat controls.
Modpack setup
Modpack creators can ship the config file so that every world created with the pack starts in combat mode.
Who it’s for: Players who fight from horseback and server owners who want consistent horse controls for a mounted-combat setting.
How it compares
