Herobrine Experiment

by EgemenK1

Herobrine Experiment is a Forge horror mod for 1.20.1 that plays out in four timed phases, starting from the moment a new world loads.

ForgeClient or server, optionalCustom license1.20.1

What it does

The mod follows a single escalating sequence. Shortly after a world spawns, a chat message announces that Herobrine has joined the game, and the mod presents this as the start of a horror experience rather than a feature to switch on. Each later phase adds a new unsettling event on top of the earlier ones, so the experience builds gradually instead of arriving all at once.

Progress depends on what the player does in the world. After exactly 200 steps, a special advancement called He's Here triggers with a violent screen shake, a low humming ambient sound and a custom visual effect. Later, the mod periodically reads the player's public IP address and city from the internet connection, then shows the real location on screen with a frightening lightning effect to remind the player that they are not safe.

The mod is a Forge mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 and is classed under World generation and Mobs. Either side can run it, and neither a client nor a server needs it. The license is a custom one, and the code is not open source. The latest Forge file is 0.0.5, published on 2026-06-14, and the first release dates from 2025-07-12.
