Hard Mode
by BoxyPlayz
Hard Mode makes Minecraft harder through new recipes and tougher mobs, with tool upgrades that require materials earlier in the progression.
What it does
Hard Mode changes the early game by replacing some crafting paths. Copper tools are upgraded with iron, and iron tools with diamond, so a player moves up a tier only after gathering the next material. A furnace is crafted from clay and coal, which ties smelting to resources found further from the start.
Mobs are altered to be faster, stronger and tougher, so fights demand better gear and more preparation. The mod is server required, with the client optional: the server must run it, while players may leave it out and still join. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, for game versions 1.21.10 and 1.21.11, under the MIT License, and the mod is not open source. Its data pack is available for server platforms.
Key features
Tougher mobs
Hostile mobs gain speed, strength and durability, so encounters take longer and cost more health.
Tool upgrade chain
Copper tools are upgraded using iron, and iron tools using diamond, which sets a clear progression order.
Clay and coal furnace
The furnace is crafted from clay and coal instead of cobblestone, changing the early resource path.
Harder recipes
Several recipes are changed to require materials that are less common in the first stages of a world.
