Distant entities and block entities stop ticking when they sit far from players, which reduces work on the server and client. Bullets from TaCZ and the Ender Dragon are exempt, so they keep moving. Chest models far from the camera are batched and skipped beyond a configurable distance, and the client bootstrap finishes sooner at launch.

Background throttling is an optional mode that lowers frame rate and chunk updates while the game window is unfocused, then restores full speed when focus returns. World generation runs faster and works alongside other chunk-acceleration mods, and light-engine tweaks reduce how often lighting is recalculated. Leaf culling is available on NeoForge builds for 1.21.1 and earlier. Reflex lowers render latency. Every feature can be changed in the configuration file.

Graphene requires Cloth Config API, Forge Config API Port and Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) or Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL), depending on the loader. Either side can run it alone, and neither needs it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.
