Gracebound

by jvn

Gracebound, a NeoForge client mod for Minecraft 1.21.1, draws a guidance trail that leads players back to places they care about, so they can keep their eyes on the game.

NeoForgeClient required, server optionalAll rights reserved1.21.1

What it does

Guidance can target several things. The default setting points toward the last death location, so a player who dies can follow the trail back to where they fell. Regular compasses point toward world spawn, and lodestone compasses point toward the lodestone they are linked to. Recovery compasses point toward their own recovery target, which is also the death location by default. Guidance is configurable, and a trail of light shows the direction.

Its look and behavior can be tuned through in-game client configuration options. Cross-dimension protection stops guidance from pointing at a target in another dimension; the mod reports that instead. Gracebound requires toucanLib. Optional compatibility with Antique Atlas 4, Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map is included, and the mod still works without any of them.

Key features

  1. Death location guidance

After death, the trail leads back toward the last known death location, and this target can be configured.

  2. Compass-based targets

Regular, lodestone and recovery compasses each point to their own target, and holding a compass changes the guidance by compass type.

  3. Cross-dimension protection

Guidance does not point at a target in another dimension, so a player is not sent in a wrong direction.

  4. Configurable trail

The guidance trail's appearance and behavior can be adjusted in client configuration options.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players on NeoForge 1.21.1 who want directional guidance without a full map screen. Gracebound is a client mod, so it is installed on the player's side; servers may add it but do not need it.

What the author says

Gracebound adds a guidance trail inspired by Elden Ring's "Guidance of Grace". It helps point you back toward important locations without opening a map or cluttering your screen. By default, Gracebound appears after death and guides you back toward your last known death location. If you hold a compass, the guidance…
