ForceGL
by ditomax
ForceGL changes the OpenGL context that Minecraft asks for at startup, so the game requests OpenGL 4.6 instead of the default 3.2.
What it does
During startup, Minecraft asks GLFW for an OpenGL 3.2 context. ForceGL hooks into the window creation step and changes that request to OpenGL 4.6, so the game can run on a newer context when the graphics driver supports it. The mod does not change the renderer itself, which is still built around the existing rendering pipeline.
Because the mod only alters the version requested at window creation, it is a small Fabric mod with a narrow purpose. Players who want to test a newer context can install it on the client alone and remove it again without any other change. The author notes that the context does not make the game faster by itself, and that some drivers behave differently with newer contexts, so results vary.
Installation needs only Fabric Loader and the ForceGL file for 26.1.2. The GPU driver must support the requested OpenGL version, and the author tested the mod on a limited number of systems. Use at one's own risk: if Minecraft fails to start or shows graphical issues, removing the mod restores the default behavior.
Key features
OpenGL 4.6 request
The window is created with an OpenGL 4.6 context in place of the default 3.2 context.
Window creation hook
The change is made during window creation, before the game starts drawing.
Driver-dependent result
A context is used only when the graphics driver supports the requested version.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Testing newer contexts
Players who want to see how Minecraft behaves on a newer OpenGL context can switch the requested version with this mod.
Driver experiments
The mod suits an experiment on a single machine, since results depend on the GPU driver and vary by system.
Who it’s for: Players and tinkerers with a Fabric 26.1.2 client who want to test an OpenGL 4.6 context on a driver that supports it.
How it compares
MaxGL is a Fabric client mod for 26.1 that is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Prefer OpenGL is a client-side Fabric, Forge and Quilt mod for 26.2 – 26.3 and is not open source, being released under All rights reserved. ForceGL covers only 26.1.2.
