Ferrite

by NoZeroG

Ferrite is a Fabric optimization mod that speeds up chunk generation, entity ticking, block-entity ticking and item transfer by moving heavy per-tick math into native code.

FabricClient or server, optionalMIT LicenseOpen source26.1.1 – 26.3

What it does

Most of the speed-up comes from reducing the work done each tick. Entity ticking drops by about 65 percent in worlds with more than 1000 packed mobs, and block-entity ticking drops by about 70 percent. Idle signs and furnaces stop running their tickers by default. Hoppers pull from partly emptied chests with loops that skip drained slots, and an opt-in hopper highway setting raises chain throughput roughly threefold for storage systems.

Terrain generation is handled by native code written in Rust. Worldgen noise, biomes and density functions were ported to match vanilla output bit for bit, and parity checks cover 63 of 63 noise tests and 50 of 50 density tests for 26.2. Predictive chunk forcing is opt-in and can pre-generate spawn chunks at roughly 90 to 118 chunks per second. The redstone wire algorithm is adapted from Space Walker's Alternate Current, which is MIT licensed, and Ferrite is open source under the MIT License.

Ferrite requires Fabric API. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so it can run on a singleplayer client, a server or both. Files are published for Fabric only, for game versions 26.1.1 – 26.3, and the latest file is 0.7.4-alpha+26.3 for 26.3, in the alpha channel.

Key features

  1. Entity and block-entity tick reduction

Entity ticks fall about 65 percent in heavy mob loads, and block-entity ticks fall about 70 percent, with suppression of idle furnace and sign tickers.

  2. Faster hoppers and chests

Extract loops skip drained slots, making partly emptied chests about 85 percent cheaper to read, and an opt-in highway mode multiplies chain throughput.

  3. Native terrain generation

Worldgen noise, biomes and density functions run in Rust and match vanilla output bit for bit, with parity checks published for each release.

  4. Predictive chunk pre-generation

An opt-in mode forces chunks ahead of the player along the flight path, with resume support for spawn pre-generation.

  5. Runtime toggle and logging

A runtime toggle turns the optimizations on or off, and a log option reports where tick time goes so the targets can be checked.

Questions

Does Ferrite need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency, and Ferrite is published for Fabric only, for game versions 26.1.1 – 26.3.

Does Ferrite have to be installed on a server?

No. Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so a server can run it, and players can join a server that runs it without installing it.

Are the terrain results the same as vanilla?

The worldgen port is described as bit-for-bit vanilla, and parity checks of 63 of 63 noise and 50 of 50 density tests are cited for 26.2.

What the author says

A performance mod for Minecraft 26.3 (Fabric, JDK 25). Java handles integration and mixins; native Rust does the heavy per-tick math where crossing the JNI boundary actually pays. Server-side compatible: install on a server, players don't need it. Worldgen math (noise, biomes, density functions) is ported bit-exact…
