Extra TAN

by matthe815

Extra TAN is a Forge add-on for Tough Nails, adding utility items and drinks that help players manage body temperature and hydration.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.12.2

What it does

Tough Nails tracks temperature and thirst, and Extra TAN adds more ways to handle both. Its Hot and Cold drinks move the player's temperature a small step toward the intended level in a single use, while Super Hot and Super Cold drinks push it much further. Those stronger drinks can break their bottles, so durability matters when using them. Tempered Flasks, a further utility item, shatter when exposed to extreme temperatures.

The mod also adds native Tough Nails support for Harvestcraft drinks, so those drinks raise the thirst level. It is intended for players who want to avoid freezing or burning to death while exploring without juggling heat sources. Extra TAN requires Tough Nails and Lieutenant, so both must be installed before running a pack. A config option can disable everything except the Harvestcraft features, for players who only want that part.

Extra TAN is open source under the MIT License and is published for Forge only, with a single file for 1.12.2: version 6.0.649, dated 2023-10-16.

Key features

  1. Hot and Cold drinks

Single-use drinks that bring the current temperature closer to the intended level, making extreme conditions less dangerous.

  2. Super Hot and Super Cold drinks

Stronger single-use drinks that change the temperature greatly in one direction, with a chance to break their bottles.

  3. Tempered Flasks

Utility flasks that hold their contents against temperature changes but shatter when exposed to extreme temperatures.

  4. Harvestcraft drink support

Harvestcraft drinks gain the Tough Nails hydration effect, so they raise the thirst level.

  5. Optional feature config

A config option disables all Extra TAN features except the Harvestcraft support, for modpacks that only need that part.

What the author says

This mod requires Lieutenant, be sure to install it before running your pack. Ever since I came upon Tough as Nails, I've always had a single issue: I would always freeze or burn to death while exploring. Of course, the process of juggling between heat sources is never a fun one. So I decided to create Extra TAN to…
