Expert Dimension Travel

by Indeterminance

Expert Dimension Travel changes how players move between the Overworld, the Nether and the End, making Nether portals harder to use and End travel more involved.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Nether portals are reworked so that they no longer activate only the ruined portal structures. One-way travel from the Nether back to the Overworld generates a broken portal where the player arrives, so the return trip has to be rebuilt by hand. The mod is aimed at players who find entering the Nether unchallenging.

The central fountain in the End is changed, and the exit portal appears only once the dragon fight is over. Using an End Gateway on the outer End islands returns the player to the Overworld instead of only teleporting them to the main End island, and the author notes that the outer islands may be made optional. The changes apply in both the Nether and the End. Expert Dimension Travel is distributed for Forge only, and both client and server need it. The source code is public and the code is released under the MIT License, so the project is open source. Files exist for Minecraft 1.20.1 only, with 1.0.1 as the latest Forge file.

Key features

  1. Harder Nether portals

Nether portals no longer activate only the ruined portal structures, so entering the Nether takes more effort.

  2. Broken return portals

Travel from the Nether back to the Overworld generates a broken portal at the arrival point.

  3. Reworked End exit portal

The central fountain changes, and the exit portal appears only once the dragon fight is over.

  4. Overworld return from End gateways

An End Gateway on the outer End islands sends the player back to the Overworld instead of the main End island.
