Ender Pearl Swap

by Mindoth

Throwing an ender pearl at another living entity in Ender Pearl Swap exchanges the thrower's position with the target's instead of only teleporting the thrower.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2

What it does

After an ender pearl is thrown, a hit on a mob or another player swaps the two positions, so the target lands where the pearl was thrown and the thrower takes the target's former place. Without a hit, the pearl teleports its thrower as in vanilla. The behavior applies to any living entity the pearl strikes.

By default the swap happens only on a direct hit. A config option switches the trigger to a radius, so a pearl that lands near a mob can still cause the swap. The distance is set in the config file that ships with the mod. At a value of 10, a pearl thrown into the ground moves everyone within a 10 by 10 by 10 area to the thrower's previous location.

The mod is published for Forge only, with a single build, 1.19.2-1.0.1 for 1.19.2, released on 2023-07-08. It is a client and server mod, so the server and every player need it. The code is under All rights reserved, and the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Position swap on hit

A pearl that strikes a mob or player exchanges the two positions instead of moving only the thrower.

  2. Direct-hit default

By default the swap needs a direct hit with the pearl, so stray throws keep vanilla behavior.

  3. Radius trigger mode

A config setting replaces the direct hit with a radius check, so landing near a target is enough.

  4. Adjustable radius

The swap distance is a value in the config file, and a larger number widens the area that gets pulled in.

Use cases

Pranks between players

Players on a shared world can swap places with each other by throwing a pearl at one another.

Mob escapes

A pearl thrown at a mob moves the mob to the spot where the pearl landed, which changes how an encounter plays out.

Who it’s for: Players who want pearl throws to move others as well as the thrower, on single-player worlds or multiplayer servers that run Forge 1.19.2.

Questions

Does Ender Pearl Swap need to be on the server?

Yes. It is a client and server mod, so the server and every player need it installed.

Can the swap trigger without hitting a mob directly?

Yes, if the radius mode is enabled in the config. The radius then decides which entities are moved.

Which Forge version does the mod support?

The mod is built only for 1.19.2, and the latest file is 1.19.2-1.0.1 for 1.19.2.

What the author says

This mod is really simple and does exactly what is said in its summary. After throwing an Ender Pearl, if it hits another living entity like a mob or another player you swap places with each other instead of you just teleporting over to where the pearl landed. By default the mod works only when directly hitting…
