Cheap tnt

by Mr_frugal

Cheap tnt lowers the crafting cost of TNT, so a survival player can make blasting tools and clear terrain much earlier in a world.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.11 – 26.2

What it does

The mod changes the TNT recipe to two gunpowder and two sand, a cost that is about half of the vanilla requirement. Because the recipe still uses vanilla items, the result stays vanilla friendly and existing explosion behavior is kept, while a few new items and explosion-related options are added alongside it. Players who spend hours clearing creepers or walking a perimeter to reach ancient debris can use the cheaper explosive to dig out areas faster.

The mod is a server-side addition: only the server needs it installed, and players join multiplayer worlds without any change on their side. It runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and the files target game versions 1.21.11 – 26.2, with 1.0.0_mark_1 for 26.2 as the latest build. The code is licensed under the MIT License, so the mod is not open source in the sense of publishing its source for public reuse under the same terms.

Key features

  1. Cheaper TNT recipe

TNT is crafted from two gunpowder and two sand, reducing the resource cost of the explosive.

  2. Vanilla friendly changes

The recipe keeps vanilla items as ingredients, so the explosive still behaves like the original TNT.

  3. Extra items and explosion options

New items and changes to explosion mechanics are added alongside the cheaper recipe.

  4. Earlier terraforming

Blasting for resources and terrain work becomes available far earlier in a survival world.

How it compares

Full comparison

Large TNT is a server-side mod for game versions 1.21.5 – 26.3, licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and not open source, so it is an option for a different range of builds. Cheap Arrows is also server-side, published for 1.13 – 26.2 under All rights reserved, and focuses on arrows rather than TNT. Useful TNT is the only listed option that runs on the client and server together, and it is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, targeting 1.21.10 – 1.21.11 on Fabric alone.
