Durability warning mod

by myke1234d

Durability Warning is a client-side Fabric mod that alerts a player when a held tool drops below 2.5 percent durability, before it breaks.

FabricClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20 – 26.1.2

What it does

Held items are checked each tick, and a warning appears once a tool falls below 2.5 percent durability. The alert fires only once per low-durability event rather than repeating, and it resets on its own after the item is repaired. The check is a simple comparison, which keeps background overhead minimal.

Requirements are Fabric Loader and Fabric API on Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod runs on the client alone, so servers do not need it and players can join a server without installing it. Files target game versions 1.20 – 26.1.2, and the code is licensed under All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.

The design follows vanilla gameplay and keeps the interface plain, with no extra clutter, UI spam or gameplay advantages. The author lists optional armor durability warnings, a configurable threshold, custom sounds and visual alerts as future plans.

Key features

  1. Low-durability warning

A warning appears when a held tool drops below 2.5 percent durability, before the item breaks.

  2. One alert per event

Each low-durability event produces a single alert, which prevents repeated spam while the item stays low.

  3. Automatic reset

The warning rearms by itself after the item is repaired, so the next low-durability event alerts again.

  4. Light background check

A simple check runs each tick, adding minimal overhead to the game.

Use cases

Protecting a favourite tool

A player mining with an enchanted pickaxe gets a clear signal before the tool wears out and is lost.

Long exploration trips

Players away from a workbench for a long time can see when a tool needs repair or replacement.

Who it’s for: Survival players who want a warning before a tool breaks, without changing how vanilla gameplay works.
