Dungeons Overhaul
by n8-M4x
Dungeons Overhaul changes the dungeon rooms that vanilla Minecraft generates, replacing them with procedurally built layouts that carry custom loot, traps and mob ambushes.
What it does
Instead of the standard monster rooms, the mod generates dungeons with unique layouts in which the first room sits near the center and is simple to reach, while deeper rooms hold stronger loot and more dangerous traps. The generated structures sit in caves and underground areas and are meant to blend into existing terrain and into worlds that already run other mods.
Because the mod runs on the server alone, players join without installing anything, and only the server owner needs to add it. Installation requires Fabric API on the server. The files are published for Fabric across five game versions, 1.21.1 – 1.21.5, and are released under All rights reserved, so the code is not open source.
Key features
Procedural dungeon layouts
Each dungeon is assembled from generated rooms, so the arrangement differs from the fixed monster rooms of vanilla.
Custom loot tables
Dungeon chests hold loot that is not found in standard vanilla rooms, with the strongest items reserved for the inner areas.
Traps and mob ambushes
Rooms can trigger traps and sudden mob ambushes, which raise the difficulty even for a player in full diamond armor.
Cave and underground placement
Dungeons generate inside caves and underground spaces, adding structures beyond the surface biomes.

Use cases
Revisiting a familiar world
Players who have already explored vanilla dungeons can find new layouts and loot in existing worlds.
Survival progression
The harder inner rooms give players a reason to return with better gear after building up their equipment.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want more varied underground content and players who find the standard dungeons too predictable. The mod is for Fabric servers running the 1.21.1 – 1.21.5 range.
How it compares
The Dungeons is a Fabric mod for 1.21.8 – 1.21.11, server-side only and under All rights reserved, so it targets a later game version range than Dungeons Overhaul. Stardom's Dungeons is a Fabric mod for 1.21.3 – 1.21.11 that needs both the client and the server, and it is not open source. Extra dungeons runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.11 and needs both sides, and it is not open source.
