Digsites

by Kishso

Digsites is a data-driven world generation mod that places dig site structures in the world, which change over time as players interact with them.

FabricNeoForgeServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21.1 – 1.21.4

What it does

Dig sites are defined by a digsite type, a JSON file that sets the size and spawn frequency of a site and the kinds of events that can occur there. Type files ship inside data packs under worldgen/digsites, so new sites can be added without changing the mod's code. Sites can appear naturally during world generation or be created with commands such as createDigsite.

Custom structures can be assembled with the placeDigsiteMarker command, which places a marker item. Markers are removed automatically once the world has generated, so they leave no trace in the finished terrain. A default data pack with some basic content is bundled with the mod, and it is enabled by default when a new world is created. The author notes that new event types and custom behavior are planned, which may bring added risk.

Digsites needs Fabric API. Server owners install it, and players connect with no copy of their own. It is available for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.1 – 1.21.4, with 1.21.4+v1.0 as the latest file for both loaders. The mod is licensed as All rights reserved and is not open source, although public links to the source code and issue tracker exist.

Key features

  1. Data-driven dig sites

Sites are described by digsite type files, so their size, frequency and events are set in data rather than code.

  2. Command-based creation

The createDigsite command builds a site on demand, and placeDigsiteMarker sets up custom structures from marker items.

  3. Automatic marker cleanup

Placement markers are removed from the world once generation finishes, leaving the finished structures intact.

  4. Bundled default data pack

A starter data pack with basic content is included and turned on by default for new worlds, ready for testing.
