Destan's Shield Optimizer

by destaneo7

Destan's Shield Optimizer is a Fabric client mod that buffers early shield clicks so a right-click pressed slightly too soon still raises the shield.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.20.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

When a player presses the right mouse button a few ticks before vanilla would accept it, the input is normally discarded. The mod holds such inputs in a short buffer and replays them on the same tick the shield becomes usable, so the shield comes up as the player intended. A Ready Indicator drawn under the crosshair shows the state: cyan while the shield is being raised, blue while blocking, and green when it is ready.

The optimizer also adjusts its buffer window to the current network latency, which is meant to remove the need to tune the window by hand on different servers. Attack-Miss Protection stops a shield swing at empty space from forcing an unnecessary shield drop. Settings can be changed in-game through ModMenu, which requires Fabric API alongside the mod.

The mod is a client-side utility. It works on singleplayer worlds and on multiplayer servers, and it does not change the server-authoritative shield warm-up delay of 5 ticks (250 ms). Server owners do not need to install it, and players connecting to a server without it are unaffected. It is published for Fabric only, across 1.20.1 – 1.21.11, and is released under the MIT License, which is not open source.

Key features

  1. Precision input buffering

Early or short right-clicks that vanilla would ignore are saved and replayed on the tick the shield can be used.

  2. Attack-miss protection

A shield swing that hits empty space does not drop the shield, so blocking stays up during missed attacks.

  3. Dynamic ping compensation

The input buffer window adjusts to the current network latency instead of using a fixed value.

  4. Ready indicator HUD

A small colored bar under the crosshair shows whether the shield is raising, blocking or ready.

  5. ModMenu settings

Options are reachable in-game through ModMenu on Fabric, with Fabric API installed.
